Celtic have come close to signing many players, only for it to break down at the final hurdle, and our TalkingPoints users have named the one that they felt got away from under their noses.

Jeremie Frimpong revealed he tried to stop his move to Celtic 10 minutes before signing while former Hoops player Mo Sylla has confessed to getting Didier Drogba to snub a move to Parkhead.

There have been some other great examples in recent times, and the 67 Hail Hail audience named the players that got away.

Who is that one player Celtic never signed that they should have gone all out for?

The most popular name on TalkingPoints suggested was Ivan Toney, who was set to sign from Peterborough United before the deal collapsed and he went to Brentford.

Celtic offered half of what Brentford were willing to pay for Toney and the Hoops opted to back out and sign Albian Ajeti instead.

One fan commented: “Ivan Toney all day long. Had him in the building and didn’t guarantee him what he deserved. Messed that one up big time.”

Another stated: “Ivan Toney. Could have got him for £1m.”

John McGinn was another suggestion after the boyhood Hoops fan was on the verge of joining from Hibernian, only for Aston Villa to swoop in and grab him.

There were also other suggestions, with one fan claiming that talented Irish youngster Mason Melia should have been signed.

They commented: “One player who Celtic never had a chance to sign was Melia, who had told Celtic he was only interested in going to EPL.”

Craig Bellamy and David Ginola were also mentioned as names that could have been in Celtic shirts.
