Celtic fans send Brendan Rodgers a strong message after bizarre post-match Dundee comments

Brendan Rodgers has upset many Celtic supporters after what he said about the team failing to beat Dundee on Sunday.

The Celtic manager is coming in for some serious heat as he delivered a reason for his team’s poor performances and losing to Dundee at Dens Park for the first time in almost 40 years.

Celtic fans understand the constraints placed on Rodgers after the Parkhead board’s shambolic handling of the summer transfer window.

But, in truth, the players Rodgers had at his disposal should have been enough to ensure that Celtic beat one of the worst attacking teams in the league.

It wasn’t. And after Dundee beat Celtic, what Rodgers said in the post-match press conference has not gone down well with a large section of the Hoops support.

What Brendan Rodgers said after Dundee defeat that upset Celtic fans

Rodgers refused to blame the Celtic fan protests as a reason for the defeat at Dens Park. The Hoops boss was very vocal about that.

But what he did blame and how Rodgers delivered the line has annoyed a lot of Celtic supporters.

Rodgers told Superscoreboard, “Listen, it’s not all linear and all smooth right the way through the season. That’s for sure.

“The challenge from the summer, now leading into here, where we lost a lot of firepower, a lot of goals out of the team.

“And there’s no way you’ll go into a race and be given the keys to a Honda Civic and say, I want you to drive it like a Ferrari.

“It’s not going to happen. So until something changes, I have to find the solutions. Because like I said, goals, speed, everything has come out of the team. And we need to find a way to be better.”

And it’s fair to say those comments didn’t go down well with a lot of the Celtic support.

Celtic fans send Rodgers a clear message after strange Dundee comments

As previously mentioned, Celtic supporters understand and have backed Rodgers over being hamstrung in the transfer market.

But there are many who are not buying into his reasons for the poor performances in the league and this comment after such a dismal performance and defeat.

@TheGr33nDove simply replied, “He’s at it.” as another Celtic supporter @methvesoutlook1 said, “He’s totally wrong. I don’t care what sins the board have committed- and there are many – this is throwing the team under the bus in a way that’s totally unacceptable.

“If you’re Callum and Co reading that, how’s your morale? Poor, poor stuff.”

@Br_Walfrid still recognises the Celtic board’s part in all this but makes a very good point and says, “Shouldn’t need a Ferrari to beat Dundee, so this is very poor from Brendan Rodgers indeed.

“Another dig at the board maybe, but if he can’t motivate a group of players to beat Dundee, this is his problem as well.”

A wee dig at a certain former Rangers boss coming up:

@Markyboy_1989 is really unhappy and took aim at Rodgers, “No wonder the players have downed tools with patter like that. Those are the sort of comments that lose a dressing room, and by the looks of things he did it long ago.”

Whilst there are still many Celtic fans who back Rodgers to turn this around, he’s doing himself no favours with daft comments like this after another poor and abject performance.
