Ange Postecoglou is back.

The Celtic hero was appointed Nottingham Forest’s new boss on a reported two-year contract after Nuno Espirito Santo was dismissed.

Forest fans are backing Ange’s arrival, while Sky Sports pundit Chris Sutton is happy to see Postecoglou managing the ex-striker’s boyhood club.

However, Celtic fans are not exactly enthralled. Many hoped Postecoglou would take a job outwith England, and others believe a particular transfer is now inevitable.

Celtic fans think Nottingham Forest will sign Daizen Maeda

Daizen Maeda, Celtic’s Player of the Year for 2024/25, is effectively up for sale.

He revealed to Japanese media during the international break that he wanted to leave Celtic in the summer, but the Hoops denied an exit.

His sub-standard performances at the start of this season can now be understood, with Maeda’s head clearly elsewhere.

And with Ange now at Forest, Celtic fans on X think it’s inevitable that the Premier League club will make an advance for Maeda in January.

One supporter posted: “Jealous of Forest fans who are about to witness Daizen Maeda x Angebaw 2026 🥲”.

Another said: “Maeda is defo going to Nottingham Forest in January”.

While this supporter wrote: “Oh well that’s Maeda away to Nottingham in January 😔”.

What transfer fee could Celtic get for Maeda?

Celtic signed Maeda when Postecoglou was manager, initially on a loan deal. Then in the summer of 2022, the Japanese speedster joined permanently for £1.6m.

It was an absolute bargain that Celtic will surely make another huge profit on, especially if he is indeed sold in January.

Maeda is contracted at the Hoops until 2027, so it’s likely Celtic will cash in as soon as they can.

In June, Fenerbahce were interested in Maeda and it was reported that the Hoops would accept a bid of no less than £21m.

That asking price may have to go down depending on how Maeda performs between now and January, but you would think Celtic could secure between £10m and £20m for the 27-year-old.
