It has been some journey for Gavin Strachan at Celtic.
Six trophy-laden years as a coach, some really high moments, such as winning the Treble under Ange Postecoglou, and then that unforgettable spell under Wilfried Nancy.
But on Tuesday, Celtic confirmed that Strachan has left his post to join West Brom, who survived relegation by the skin of their teeth last season.
That’s because James Morrison, who was drafted in towards the end, saved them from disaster, and he namechecked the ‘top managers’ Strachan has worked under during his time at Celtic, including Martin O’Neill, Brendan Rodgers and Postecoglou.

James Morrison hails Gavin Strachan’s journey at Celtic
There will be sections of the Celtic support wondering why Strachan has been allowed to leave, yet O’Neill’s coaching staff hasn’t been confirmed yet.
Yes, by the time the non-World Cup Celtic players return for pre-season training on Friday, everything will be sorted.
But Strachan was still a key figure in the dressing room, just like Shaun Maloney, Mark Fotheringham and Stephen McManus.
Nonetheless, when West Brom confirmed Strachan’s arrival, they wrote this brilliant message and made sure to big up his journey in Glasgow.
West Brom wrote: ‘Strachan arrives from Scottish Champions Celtic – where he had been since 2020. The 47-year-old has a wide range of experience in England, as well as north of the border, having previously been an assistant manager at Doncaster Rovers and Peterborough United.’
James Morrison: “I’m also delighted to add Gavin Strachan to the group. Having a new pair of eyes from somebody with Gavin’s experience will help us massively. He has worked alongside some top managers, like Martin O’Neill, Ange Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers, and will no doubt bring fresh ideas with him.”
