It has been 12 months since Greg Taylor departed Celtic and started a new career in Greece.

The now-PAOK star is still keeping up with the goings-on at his former club, including an insight into the Celtic dressing room.

Everyone is aware that Callum McGregor is the main man at Celtic; he bleeds the club’s colours and is the one with the armband.

But Taylor wanted to give his flowers to James Forrest, Luke McCowan and Liam Scales, whom he feels are key figures behind the skipper, as he told Clyde 1.

“Vital on the training ground,” said Taylor about the Celtic trio. “Driving standards. Almost being that backing voice to Callum (McGregor).”

Would Celtic’s style be better if Greg Taylor was still at the club?

Greg Taylor praises Celtic for giving new contracts to James Forrest, Luke McCowan and Liam Scales

Back in April, Celtic surprised the supporters by handing new deals to Forrest, McCowan and Scales.

In the case of Forrest, he is Celtic’s most decorated player of all time, so there wasn’t much negative noise around his deal.

You could argue the same with Scales, although the Irishman does divide opinion. But questions were raised as to why McCowan was handed a new contract.

But Taylor, who has been in a changing room with all three, made it clear that it was a top call from Celtic to extend their stays.

“So vital, you saw the three new contracts that were announced,” said Taylor. “It was James (Forrest), Luke (McCowan) and Liam Scales.

“I think all were brilliant decisions. Brilliant players on the pitch. But vital in the changing room. Vital on the training ground. Driving standards. Almost being that backing voice to Callum (McGregor).

“I think those three guys, in particular, it was an easy decision and it made sense.”

Players who understand Celtic

Across the road, Rangers have appointed Derek McInnes as manager, as well as bringing in Lawrence Shankland.

Both have connections to the Ibrox club.

Kris Boyd recently stated that bringing in people connected with Rangers is vital because Celtic have proven again and again how it can be successful.

As much as you don’t want to agree with Boyd, he has a point, and the fact that the likes of Forrest, McCowan, Scales, McGregor, Kieran Tierney and Anthony Ralston, to name a few, bleed Celtic, is very, very vital.

Over the years, from Neil Lennon to Scott Brown, there have been several people, whether on the pitch or in the dugout, who understand what Celtic is all about.

That’s important because there is no pressure like it, and as Wilfried Nancy found out the wrong way, if you don’t get it, you won’t be in the job for too long.
