Pat Bonner has shared something that he spotted Celtic doing against St Johnstone yesterday that he hasn’t seen from the team in a long time.
The 3-1 win against Craig Levein’s side was a great way to sign off for the international break and the former Celtic hero was left seriously impressed with the team’s performance as a whole.
But there was one thing that Bonner pinpointed that he spotted Brendan Rodgers‘ side doing that he’s not seen from them for ages this season.
Bonner said [BBC Radio Scotland], “I’ve got to say this is the highest tempo I’ve seen them play for quite a while.
“Now I missed the Dundee game here, the one they won comprehensively but I haven’t seen this tempo for quite a while in this first half.
“Players running in behind, even Kyogo’s getting to that near post because he knows the ball’s going to come there. And that’s the bit I was trying to describe that’s been missing from the way that they play.
“But today it’s been there in abundance.”
Celtic pick up momentum ahead of Rangers game
Over the past few weeks, we have seen Celtic start to pick up a good bit of form as the Glasgow Derby gets ever closer.
Rodgers’ side are now playing with an attacking intent that had been missing from Celtic’s play overall this season.
Against Dundee in the 7-1 win, we saw the best of Celtic in an attacking display that totally blew the Dens Park side, and the Parkhead crowd, away.
The Motherwell win showed the team’s fighting spirit and never-say-die attitude as they came from behind and left it late to secure a 3-1 victory.

But yesterday the tempo Celtic played at is something we haven’t seen since the days of Ange Postecoglou.
The closing down, hunting in packs and determination to break St Johnstone down and win the ball back was really impressive.
It’s just a pity the international break has come when it has because this Celtic team are really starting to find their groove.
And with just eight games left of the season, and Celtic at the top of the league until Rangers play today, this title run-in has just gotten that little bit more interesting now.
