Celtic hero pictured in attendance at pre-season friendly after receiving special invite
Celtic hero Lubomir Moravcik has been pictured in attendance at the Hoops’ pre-season fixture this evening against Banik Ostrava.
The Hoops are preparing to take on the Czech side after being invited to take part in a friendly to celebrate the club’s 100th anniversary.
Organisers previously explained that they had chosen Ange Postecoglou’s side as the team to participate due to the two club’s supporters sharing similar values [FCB].
Although both sides aren’t too familiar with one another, there will be a familiar face in attendance after also being invited to tonight’s match-up.
As photographed by agency SNS, former Celtic midfielder Ľubomír Moravčík has been pictured at the Banik Ostrava ground, preparing to take in this evening’s game.
Moravcik has never played for Banik. However, the ex-Czechoslovakian internationalist spent a period of his playing days up against the top flight side.
When asked about his memories of Banik, Moravcik said: “I may surprise you, but I still have Baník in my memory from a much earlier time. [Banik Ostrava]
“As a boy, I admired the team from the Gusta Antalík era that won titles, beat Bayern in the European Cups. It was a very famous team, and I always watched it on TV.
“When I later played against Baník, I must say that very often I was not happy about the success. I don’t think I scored a single point with Nitra at Bazaly.”
A brilliant occasion for Ange Postecoglou’s side to take part in.
Although tonight’s game marks a big celebration for the home side, it should prove to be a great occasion for Ange Postecoglou and his players to take part.
With Lubo and Celtic in town, Banik Ostrava will be keen to put on a show to kick-start their celebrations.
A large crowd is also expected at the Městský Stadion. So, it is likely to be a competitive match, which will suit the Bhoys at this stage of pre-season.
It is also brilliant to see Lubo keeping up his links from his time as a Celtic player, and the 57-year-old is still adored by the Parkhead faithful.
Hopefully, we are in for a good match tonight, which sets the Hoops up nicely for our competitive return later this month.
