The dust has settled on another Premiership campaign for Celtic.

Yes, there is one more game to go, in regards to Celtic’s Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen on Saturday at Hampden, but what a season it has been overall.

That’s four titles in a row, including 14 out of the last 15 for Scotland’s most successful club, as Chris Sutton was in a buoyant mood days after the season concluded.

All season long, fans of Celtic and Rangers would have watched Sutton and Kris Boyd go at it in the Sky Sports studios.

But when the duo were reflecting on the season for the Warm Up, they were asked what was the ‘funniest moment of the season’, and Celtic’s former striker provided a quite brilliant response.

Celtic legend Chris Sutton calls Rangers a ‘real bunch of losers’

On April 13, as Celtic were closing in on the title, Rangers made the trip to Pittodrie to face Aberdeen, as defeat for the Gers would hand Brendan Rodgers’ side the main trophy.

But in the dying moments of the match, Ianis Hagi scored an equaliser and the Rangers players, including the bench, celebrated in a wild fashion.

Sutton put that forward as the funniest moment of the season, as he described Rangers as a ‘real bunch of losers’ for doing that knowing full well that Celtic were 14 points clear, at the time.

“I still think it’s really weird, you can all disagree, but the Rangers equaliser at Pittodrie,” said Sutton.

“When they had essentially lost the league. They were 14 points down, and then the wild celebrations. I don’t get it at all. I think that’s a real bunch of losers. You have just lost the league. Why are you celebrating like that?

“You should be jogging back. The bench should be sombre. I don’t understand, for the dear life of me, get it.”

Celtic and Rangers mindsets, as Kris Boyd responds

There is a reason why Celtic have dominated Scottish football for nearly thirty years now, because nobody comes close to the club’s trophy haul.

Since the turn of the century, Celtic have racked up 42 trophies – and it could and should be 43 by the weekend – with the next best being Rangers at 18.

Nonetheless, this was Boyd’s response to Sutton’s jibes at Rangers.

“Celebrate a last-minute equaliser 2-0 down,” said Boyd. “I think, in the moment, you have to enjoy it.”
