The transfer window may well be closed for the Celtic but that hasn’t stopped some transfer business being concluded for some former Hoops heroes.

The free agent market is well and truly open and with plenty of players out of contract at the moment the scope for some clubs to get some real talent in their doors at no cost to them is a real possibility.

With players like Anthony Martial, Adrion Rabiot and Memphis Depay still looking for their next club, the quality is there if clubs are willing to invest a hefty weekly wage.

Now, I’m not comparing this Celtic Invincible to the three previous names but there is no doubt he still has quality and now, after more than three months out of contract, Stuart Armstrong has made the next move in his career.

Armstrong was superb for Celtic in Brendan Rodgers’ first spell at the club and he was one of the driving forces in that infamous Invincible’s treble season.

With 17 goals and seven assists, the now 32-year-old was a mainstay in the Celtic first team making 47 appearances that season.

When he left the club in 2018, Armstrong had picked up four league titles, two Scottish Cups and two League Cups as he helped Celtic to the Double Treble.

And now, six years later, Armstrong embarks on a new chapter in his career after signing for the Vancouver Whitecaps this week:

The former Celtic midfielder was out of contract after agreeing to leave Southampton at the end of last season as he recovered from injury. Armstrong did have a short trial at Brentford in the summer but a move never materialised.

Now that he’s over that, Armstrong will be looking to pick up his career and help lead the Canadian-based club to glory in the Western Conference.
