Chris Sutton put Kris Boyd in his place yesterday following his comments after Celtic thrashed Aberdeen before the international break.
Kris Boyd seemingly suggested that Aberdeen try harder against Rangers than the likes of Celtic and implied, at the time, that they will do so when the duo meet.
Well, before the two teams could play out a score draw on Sunday at Pittodrie, those comments, before the match, were revisited on Sky Sports.
As you would imagine, Celtic legend Chris Sutton didn’t mince his words, even though Kris Boyd tried to backtrack and suggest that he didn’t mention the Bhoys during his rant.
The former Treble winner told his counterpart that Rangers should look at themselves for their own ‘failures’ and how they have ‘won nothing since 2012’, as he told Sky Sports Football (26/11/23 at 11:05 am).
This is how it all unfolded, with ex-Aberdeen keeper Joe Lewis also making his feelings clear towards Kris Boyd.
Chris Sutton on Boyd’s comments
“What was your point then,” Sutton asked Boyd after he stated that he never mentioned Celtic’s name during his rant last week.
The Celtic legend added: “The stats don’t back it up, do they?
“You did write a column on this also. That’s normally ghost written. You did double down and question the Aberdeen integrity, didn’t you?! Do you stand by that?” Boyd answered ‘yes’.
“The issue is, Kris is a Rangers man. Rangers have won nothing since 2012. Two trophies. You can count three if you are prepared to count the Petrol Tank Cup. And you don’t focus on what really matters.
“The Rangers managers during that period. You don’t focus on Pedro (Caixinha). Graeme Murty. Mark Warburton. Steven Gerrard. Gio (van Bronckhorst). You focus on Aberdeen and blame Aberdeen for Rangers failures.”

Eight point lead
Celtic would have been kicking themselves, and still will be, after the dropped points at home to Motherwell on Saturday – Callum McGregor reacted to another penalty miss.
But the lead at the top is still eight points, with Rangers having a game in hand.
A lot of questions will be answered next month as both teams head towards the all-important showdown on December 30, but before all of that, there are a lot of festive games to get through.
