Celtic loanee Shin Yamada’s form leaves Preussen Munster fans asking major question after relegation

It has been a season to forget for Shin Yamada.

Last summer, Yamada left his home country of Japan and joined Celtic, hoping to elevate his career, just like Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate.

But little did Yamada know that he would walk into a complete and utter mess at Celtic, get loaned out to Germany’s second-tier in January, and then suffer relegation.

That’s exactly what happened with Preussen Munster and Yamada over the weekend following their 1-1 draw against SV Darmstadt 98.

And there has been one common theme to it all, a lack of trust in providing Yamada with regular chances.

Was Shin Yamada unfairly treated at Celtic?

Why wasn’t Shin Yamada used more?

Everyone can have their opinion, but Yamada only played under 300 minutes for Celtic, and it seemed like Brendan Rodgers, who signed him, didn’t want to play him.

Therefore, on the odd occasion he was used, he didn’t have the rhythm to the game and struggled. On top of the fact that Celtic were all over the shop.

From the player’s perspective, how do you expect him to prove his worth?

Look at Hyunjun Yang at Celtic now, he has played 109 matches for the club, and it could be argued that only in recent months has he started to find some proper form.

And now relegation to Germany’s second-tier despite scoring again…

Those problems at Celtic continued at Munster for Yamada.

When the 25-year-old first arrived, he hardly played, was hooked at half-time in his first start, then was frozen out, scored on his return to the starting XI, but was hooked again at half-time in the same game, and now he has scored again on Sunday.

It has proven to be a little too late. Three goals in his last four. Against Schalke, who won the title, and against Hannover 96, who are pushing for automatic promotion.

That’s why the Bundesliga 2 commentator was right to state that the Preussen Munster fans will be asking why the Celtic loanee wasn’t used more.

“Shin Yamada is at the end of it to score his third goal in four games,” said the Bundesliga 2 commentator.

“Shin Yamada, their number nine, these fans will be left to wonder why on earth he wasn’t starting earlier on?!

“He scored last week on just his second start since signing in January, having scored with his first touch coming off the bench against Schalke. And now he scores again.”
