While Daizen Maeda rightly took the plaudits on Saturday after Celtic’s win over Falkirk, he wasn’t the only Hoops star being lauded by the fans this weekend.

Just a day later, Stephen Welsh found a way to skyrocket his own popularity with the Celtic Park faithful in the colours of Motherwell.

Currently out on loan, the centre-back was instrumental in Motherwell’s dramatic 3-2 triumph over Rangers at Ibrox, and his post-match celebrations showed exactly what the result meant to him.

Many supporters will have already seen the viral clip of Welsh screaming in pure delight outside the Ibrox dressing rooms.

But now, he has taken to Instagram to further celebrate the massive upset, posting: “Love this team. Huge win. 4 to go, we won’t stop now.”

Celtic loanee Stephen Welsh’s message after Motherwell beat Rangers

Welsh was clearly eager to rub a little extra salt into Rangers’ title wounds, going as far as using a meme of comedian Kevin Bridges to revel in his side’s victory.

Bridges, a well-known Hoops fanatic, famously delivered the line, “That’s some f___ing result for the ‘Well, innit,” during one of his stand-up routines.

Knowing exactly what he was doing, the young defender cheekily included a still image of that exact comedic moment in his Instagram post.

Celtic fans loving Welsh’s contribution to title run-in

As you would expect, the Celtic support absolutely loved watching Welsh do a massive favour for his parent club – echoing his previous heroics at Fir Park back in February.

In that encounter, a ten-man Motherwell side battled hard and held a brittle Rangers to a 1-1 draw, courtesy of an unforgettable 89th-minute equaliser from Welsh himself.

Combine that dramatic intervention with this latest stunning victory over Danny Rohl’s men, in which the defender grafted for over an hour, and it is safe to say the loanee is more than playing his part in Celtic’s relentless push for the Premiership title.

Of course, there is a long way to go, but hopefully, Welsh can also provide Celtic with a helping hand when his free-flowing Motherwell team lock horns against Hearts on May 9.
