Five crazy things that happened during Wilfried Nancy’s 33 days as Celtic manager

Wilfried Nancy’s time as Celtic manager will be one that is remembered for all of the wrong reasons.

Nancy was sacked by Celtic after losing six of his eight games in charge and instantly losing the support of the fanbase.

His 33 days in charge was one of the shortest in football history and he goes down as one of, if not, the worst Hoops managers of all time.

Even if he was barely through the doors, lots happened in that time. So, with that, we have compiled a list of five crazy/bizarre moments that happened in that time.

Tell us what you think below!

The tactics board

If there was ever a moment synonymous with the Nancy era, it is the tactics board.

Social media went into meltdown after he was spotted referring to the old-fashioned setup with assistant manager Kwame Ampadu.

Celtic were 2-1 down to Hearts at the time and had it been an iPad, the reaction would’ve been a lot more subdued.

It was the moment that defined his career, but the overreaction to it was a bit much wasn’t it?

Wilfried Nancy’s Celtic shoes

That first game against Hearts will be remembered mostly for the tactics board, but the shoes were also a talking point.

He sported a green and white Adidas number on the touchline and was ridiculed for it.

To be fair, they weren’t that bad, but they were worn once and never saw the light of day again.

A shame, they probably cost a few quid.

Hyunjun Yang became Celtic’s most consistent player

I don’t think there are many players who can honestly say they improved or were at their best under Nancy, but Hyunjun Yang was one of them.

The South Korean has been inconsistent at the best of times while joining Celtic but Nancy saw something in him and made the winger a regular starter in the wing-back slot.

Yang’s goal against Rangers was the perfect example of how he had become one of the most important players in the Nancy setup and one of the first names on the teamsheet.

What do you think is the main reason Wilfried Nancy couldn’t buy a win as Celtic manager? 🤔

The stats are damning…

Signing a player and then getting sacked a few days later

Fans wanted Nancy gone before the transfer window opened, but Celtic had other ideas.

1 January rolled around and rumours began before Julian Araujo then joined the Hoops on loan.

Nancy knew Araujo from his MLS days and made his debut in the Glasgow derby.

Two days on from that, the 48-year-old was given the axe and now all of the plans for this month’s transfer window need to be changed, while it’s open…

Michael Nicholson backed Wilfried Nancy and then changed his mind almost instantly

One of the staunchest defenders of the former Celtic boss was CEO Michael Nicholson.

Just a couple weeks before his dismissal, Nicholson backed Nancy to turn things around and be a success.

Instead, he went against his word and decided to make the change when it was obvious that there was no point of return.

Paul Tisdale was also sacked for his failures, but how can you legitimately say that you support someone to change your mind in less than two weeks?
