There has been a lot of noise around Robbie Keane possibly becoming Celtic’s next manager.
That noise ramped up when former Celtic captain Scott Brown went to visit Keane’s Ferencvaros in Budapest recently.
Given that Keane is the frontrunner for the Celtic job, you sense that he is only aiding his chances of getting it after winning another trophy with Ferencvaros.
The Hungarian side beat Zalaegerszegi 1-0 in extra time to win the Magyar Kupa for the first time since 2022, and Keane was lauded for his efforts by the likes of Luka Modric, Luis Figo, David Beckham, and Frank Lampard.

Players past and present praise Robbie Keane after Ferencvaros cup win
This is trophy number four in Keane’s managerial career.
When the former striker, who had a short stint at Celtic in 2010, expressed his delight at Ferencvaros’s cup triumph on Instagram, he was met with a wave of praise from players past and present.
There were even a few former Celtic players or boyhood Hoops fans, such as Scott Brown and Shay Given, congratulating Keane on his success.
- Luis Figo: ‘Congrats, bro.’
- Luka Modric: ‘Congrats, amigo.’
- David Beckham: ‘Well done, mate.’
- Shay Given: ‘Congratulations, another 🏆. Amazing 👏👏’
- Harry Maguire: ‘Top class.’
- Frank Lampard: “Love it, mate.’
- Stan Petrov: ‘Well done, buddy.’
- Kevin Kilbane: ‘Amazing, mate. Love it.’
- Scott Brown: ‘Congrats, my man.’
Keane’s Ferencvaros are in a similar situation to Martin O’Neill and Celtic
Whether Celtic fans want Keane as their next manager or not matters very little because the man making the calls is Dermot Desmond, and he listens to nobody.
The interesting thing is that Keane is in a similar situation to Celtic.
Keane’s Ferencvaros side could win the title this weekend, just like Martin O’Neill and Celtic, who need to win their remaining two matches against Motherwell and Hearts.
If the former Ireland striker does that, then it will probably only increase his chances of getting the job at Parkhead.
