Martin O’Neill has assessed Robbie Keane’s chances of becoming the new Celtic manager in the summer.
Keane has been linked with the Celtic job numerous times and his close connections to Dermot Desmond make him a frontrunner.
The Republic of Ireland’s all-time leading goalscorer hinted that he would be open to leaving Ferencvaros for a new challenge and his former national team boss has said that he should be among the contenders.

I want the next manager of Celtic to be…
Martin O’Neill thinks Celtic should consider Robbie Keane for job
67 Hail Hail fans were not in favour of Keane becoming the new Celtic manager, but O’Neill thinks it would be wrong to dismiss the 45-year-old following his success in the dugout.
He said: “Robbie has done really fine at Ferencvaros, so why shouldn’t he be? The club should be looking at someone of that calibre.”
“I worked with Robbie when I was the Republic of Ireland manager. We could have done with him when he was 26 or 27, rather than the latter part of his career.”

Martin O’Neill’s Robbie Keane namedrop suggests Celtic move may be on
Although O’Neill didn’t let Keane join his coaching staff while in charge of Ireland, one thing you can’t deny is that he knows talent when he spots it.
Other targets, like Kjetil Knutsen, have committed their future to their current club, while other names in the hat such as Jens Berthel Askou and Roberto Martinez are still plausible options.
Agree or disagree?
The fact that O’Neill has publicly acknowledged the Keane rumours seems to suggest that there are legs to this and that it would be no surprise to see him in the dugout at Celtic Park next season.
