Celtic’s legends will be backed by an immense Hoops support this Saturday at Anfield.
A Hoops all-stars squad is due to take on their Liverpool counterparts in a match raising money for the LFC Foundation, Forever Reds, and the Celtic Foundation.
The game is this weekend, and despite it being a charity fixture, thousands of Celtic fans have purchased tickets for the match.
Celtic posted a preview for the encounter this afternoon, with some interesting details included.
They wrote: “The players will take on their Liverpool counterparts at Anfield on Saturday, March 25, with a 3pm kick off and over 4,000 Celtic supporters will make the trip, packing out the away section of the stadium.”
We did hear murmurings of a big Celtic support from Kenny Dalglish a week or so ago, but over 4,000 ticket sales exceeds even what he had hinted at.
Put simply, many teams in Scotland and England wouldn’t even be able to sell 4,000 tickets for a competitive away match.
The Celtic support never ceases to amaze.
The full-squad for the fixture was confirmed by Celtic. The team will be managed by Paul Lambert with Tom Boyd as the assistant.
Auction winner Ellen Flanagan is also an assistant while the Hoops playing squad is: Stiliyan Petrov (captain), Artur Boruc, Shay Given, Darren O’Dea, Glenn Loovens, Ramon Vega, Mikael Lustig, Emilio Izaguirre, Lee Naylor, Joe Ledley, Si Ferry, Marc Crosas, Massimo Donati, Ross Wallace, Simon Donnelly, Trevor Sinclair, Niall McGinn, Robbie Keane (one half), Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, Harald Brattbakk.
Those 20 Celtic players will face a Liverpool side featuring former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard. He’ll get a tasty reaction from the Hoops support.
Let’s hope they’re cheering some goals too.
