Celtic fans heading to the Scottish Cup tie against Auchinleck Talbot have been delivered an important update from Scotrail.

The cup tie was moved from Auchinleck’s home ground as Celtic fans travel to Rugby Park to face the West of Scotland League Premier Division side.

Celtic’s allocation for the Scottish Cup tie is massive at 9000, which can cause big travel disruptions, especially on a Sunday service.

To update fans, Celtic’s Supporter Liaison Officer sent this message out on X, “Info for trains on Sun:

“Glasgow – Kilmarnock: 1503hrs arriving 1549hrs and 1603hrs arriving 1648hrs.

“Kilmarnock – Glasgow: 1957hrs arriving 2041hrs and 2057hrs arriving 2134hrs

“There are only two carriages on each of these services which will be 250 passengers, 300 at a push”

With 9000 fans travelling to the big game, this is not ideal.

ScotRail’s Celtic fan announcement, but it’s still not enough

ScotRail were forced to reply to the announcement as it seems the Celtic SLO may have embarrassed the travel company into a rethink.

Replying to the tweet, ScotRail said, “Hi there, we’ve had a wee look into this and all of these services are scheduled to have 4 carriages on Sunday.”

Two services each way, both with a total capacity of around 2400 are still not enough to make sure the vast majority of Celtic supporters get to Kilmarnock safely.

The rail company must do better, not just for Celtic supporters, but for Scottish football in general.
