Celtic have started their summer scouting ahead of the end of this season.

Brendan Rodgers wanted a striker back in January but the club failed to add one to their roster and that frustrated supporters who were expectant on deadline day.

What that does is heap pressure on Celtic to bring on in when the summer window rolls around and the likes of Mathias Kvistgaarden and others have been consistently linked to Glasgow’s runaway champions.

Owen Stirton speaks on loan spell amid Celtic transfer interest

The 18-year-old scored on his Terrors Premiership debut against Ross County before moving to Montrose in League One and hitting six goals in his nine appearances so far.

And as Celtic continue to keep an eye on Stirton’s progress, the youngster hopes to continue bagging goals and boosting his profile.

“Yeah the lads have been good to me and I’ve scored a few goals and settled in quite well. Hopefully there’s more to come,” he told Dundee United’s channel.

“The first few games when I started to score I thought, ‘It can’t keep going like this’, but hopefully I can get a few more and see what happens.

“I was happy with (player of the month), it’s always good to get recognition and hopefully I can keep kicking on and keep playing well for Montrose.”

“It’s much harder. You’re playing against men with experience in the game and it’s so much more physical. But it’s been a good challenge. From where I was six months ago I’m in a better place physically and hopefully by August I’m a bit more physical and ready for the first-team.”

Stirton has learned from Premiership strikers

Stirton has impressed in the men’s game and he has learned at Tannadice under some top strikers at the club.

Joint-top scorer in the Premiership, Sam Dalby, has helped mould Stirton’s game just from watching on while Louis Moult has also taught a thing or two.

But their styles have been different to Stirton’s who insists he is not just a one-dimensional striker and he has lots more to his game.

“Being around the first-team for the first six months has helped me massively. Being around Dalby and seeing what he does, Louis Moult, it’s really helped me up my game and getting my first goal was massive for me.

“I wouldn’t say I was a just a target man, I’ve got more to my game. Hopefully I can show that here.”
