Celtic summer clearout under spotlight as Craig Bellamy’s ‘reservations’ over Burnley job emerge

Scott Parker has left his role as Burnley manager, and it is of significance to Celtic.

That’s because Craig Bellamy, who has been linked to the Celtic managerial gig this summer, is a ‘serious candidate’ for the job.

Burnley have been relegated from the Premier League, so they will be returning to the Championship next season, but an interesting report has emerged regarding how Bellamy feels about going back to Turf Moor.

It has been suggested by BBC Sport that the current Wales manager ‘holds some reservations about the current make-up of the Burnley squad’, and ‘how much work it may need this summer, with a number of players expected to depart.’

Albeit Celtic are a different animal from the Clarets, they are still in the same boat, regarding what needs to happen when the transfer window re-opens.

Should Celtic make a decision on Martin O’Neill’s permanent future before the end of the season?

Would Craig Bellamy have ‘reservations’ about the Celtic managerial job?

First and foremost, there will be a section of the Celtic support who simply don’t want Bellamy as the new coach, and would be glad if he did have ‘reservations’ about the job.

But the only reason this question is being put out there is that he is being linked to the Parkhead gig, and Celtic are in need of serious change.

Could this be the case, given the size of the job in Glasgow, Bellamy would happily accept having to be part of a major clearout, but he wouldn’t feel the same at Burnley.

Yes, Bellamy has a history with the Lancashire-based side, but that’s only in a coaching capacity when he was an assistant to now-Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany.

It is worth noting that Bellamy has merely been linked with Celtic; the noise surrounding a move to Parkhead is nowhere near as concrete as the current reports regarding Burnley.

Another thing that needs to be taken into account, for both clubs, is the fact that the former striker is currently in a job.

BBC Sport have reported that ‘Bellamy is enjoying his time with Wales’ and he is ‘relishing the opportunity of leading the nation to a home nations European Championship in 2028.’

By the end of it all, Celtic and Burnley might not appoint Bellamy, and instead, he continues his role with Wales, and his name emerges in a few years.
