Celtic supporters tease popular Benfica Youth account with Jota messages
The Celtic supporters have been doing their best to try and ensure Jota’s performance levels don’t reach Portugal, and Benfica in particular.
Indeed, popular fan account Benfica Youth were quick to highlight the dazzling Portuguese winger’s display against Dundee yesterday.
Jota’s brace and assist took him to 12 direct goal contributions in only 14 appearances for the club [Transfermarkt]. A stunning figure with the player scheduled to be at Parkhead until the end of the campaign on a loan agreement.
Celtic reportedly have an option-to-buy clause in the contract worth just over £6m [Sky Sports]. Ange Postecoglou yesterday confirmed Celtic’s intent to do a deal should the player wish to stay. As of it, there’s been no real hint from the winger about where he sees his long-term future.
But there’s no denying the impact he’s making in Glasgow. Along with Kyogo Furuhashi, Jota has helped revitalise Celtic’s attack, with his performance at Dundee following on from a similarly sublime performance in Hungary.
Benfica fans know their club has made a big mistake as Celtic cash in
The Benfica supporters have already voiced their belief in the player when it comes to the long-term. They clearly feel Jota can still have a successful career in Portugal.
Celtic fans will want to ensure that doesn’t even enter the player’s mind. After all, considering it’s his boyhood club, you have to imagine he would be wholly tempted by staying and making a career of it back home. The whole reason he moved to Parkhead in the first place was to get regular minutes again.
Regardless, that’s a concern for another day. For now, the Celtic fans are simply enjoying what he’s providing both domestically and in Europe. It doesn’t seem to matter the stage either. Dundee or Bayer Leverkusen – Jota continues to make his mark irrespective of the opposition.
And as his performances continue to be highlighted by the popular Benfica Youth Twitter page, the Celtic fans hijacked the responses over the weekend to try and move the player away from their scent.
Here’s a look at how the Celtic support have been trying to tease Jota’s parent club:
That’s smashing but we are keeping him 💪🏼🕺🏻🍀💚🥳— Gerry 🍀🇮🇪🏴⭐️9️⃣ (@GerryMadden39) November 7, 2021
He's not that good boys. Better off tweeting about your other loan players— Robert (@Robert77166963) November 7, 2021
Thank you to the good but incompetent Benfica management for blessing us with this man— PJ 🏴🇮🇪 (@PJ_1888) November 7, 2021
He got subbed because he's rubbish, you've robbed us of £6.5m here, just take it and we'll both just move on.— Rab (@bhoab) November 7, 2021
Any other rubbish players you don't want.
Please keep this on the down low Mr Benfica Youth.— Adam (@adthelad57) November 7, 2021
