Celtic-supporting St Johnstone star Shaun Rooney is rarely shy on social media and he seems to be enjoying today’s events.

Rooney is a noted Celtic fan, revealing he idolises Henrik Larsson and Tom Rogic following his Scottish Cup success with the Perth side earlier this year.

And this afternoon he’s enjoying a Celtic-themed pint of lager on a day of great hilarity for supporters, posting an image to his Instagram page earlier.

It’s unclear whether it’s a direct response to the Steven Gerrard departure to Aston Villa or whether Rooney is just having a nice Thursday during the international break!

However, he has previous for winding up Rangers supporters, taunting them with another refreshing lager after St Johnstone knocked them out of the Scottish Cup last season. I’m sure there are a few tears to be drunk today too.

Either way, enjoy your pint, Shaun!

Celtic fans are certainly enjoying a fun-filled Thursday elsewhere. There’s a lot of hilarity going around on message boards and Twitter, as chaos unfolds at Ibrox.

Not only has Gerrard left, but he’s taken almost his entire backroom staff with him, in a move that could be a serious blow to their title defence.

It comes after assurances from the former Ibrox boss that he was happy and settled in Scotland, as recently as a couple of weeks ago.

With Rangers now searching for new staff, Celtic have a chance to kick on with their own rebuild and really make our six-month headstart count under Ange Postecoglou.

Very interesting times ahead!
