Domestic football is on hold right now for the Celtic support as Scotland prepares for a World Cup double-header.
Steve Clarke’s side will face Greece tomorrow night at Hampden and Belarus three days later as he looks to take the country to the World Cup for the first time since France 98.
The Scotland boss has already called up Celtic duo Kieran Tierney and Anthony Ralston to the squad as Clarke looks to bolster his defensive options.
But the 62-year-old boss has also given a surprise nod to a talented Celtic youngster who will join up with Tierney and Ralston in this international break.

Celtic talent Ben McPherson called up to join Kieran Tierney for Scotland
Young Ben McPherson will join Tierney and Ralston in the senior Scotland squad after impressing Steve Clarke while on loan at Partick Thistle.
The Celtic Academy graduate has made eight appearances since leaving Celtic for Partick Thistle on loan in the summer.
The Scottish Sun says McPherson will join the Scotland squad but will not take part in any of the upcoming fixtures.
The youngster will, however, get the chance to train with his Celtic teammates to get the experience of being part of the senior Scotland set-up.
How Ben McPherson is doing at Partick Thistle as Celtic youngster impresses Clarke
McPherson must be doing a grand job at Partick Thistle to get noticed by Steve Clarke this season. With just six caps for Scotland U21s, it’s not as if the Celtic kid has been in and around many national set ups.
Here are McPherson’s stats from Fotmob so far this season:
- Games: 7 (Championship)
- Starts: 7
- Minutes: 527
- Minutes per game: 75.28
- Wins: 5
- Draws: 2
- Defeats: 0
The young defender is clearly impressing Thistle boss Mark Wilson as he becomes an important part of the former Celtic defender’s first team already.
