Celtic told striker with ‘good talent’ should be out on loan and not in Europa League squad

Celtic will play in the Europa League against the likes of Roma and Feyenoord this season.

The Hoops announced their squad for the league phase campaign on Thursday after the deadline at 11pm on Tuesday evening.

And fans were shocked that loan capture from Manchester City, Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, was not included in the squad.

It’s the same for Shin Yamada, who only just signed for Celtic in July for a fee of £1.5m from Kawasaki Frontale.

Johnny Kenny got the nod over Yamada, but Gordon Dalziel thinks under better circumstances at Celtic, the Irishman should not be in the Europa League squad.

Gordon Dalziel thinks Celtic’s Johnny Kenny should be out on loan

Dalziel believes Kenny is a good talent, but he isn’t Europa League level at the moment and really should be out on loan to further develop his career.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, the pundit said: “Look, I think if all is well at Celtic Football Club, I think guys like Johnny Kenny are out on loan just now, there’s no doubting that.

“I think in pre-season, he got off to a good start scoring against Queen’s Park. He got involved in games and he looked lively. But he’s not at THAT level yet, the lad.

“I think he’s got good talent, I think there’s a good opportunity to further his career. He needs games and I think going out on loan would have been great for him.

“But Celtic are in such a position where they left themselves short of frontmen, especially when Adam Idah went out the door. They were scrambling all over the place to get people in.

“They went into the free agent market, as we seen, and all of a sudden Johnny Kenny is an important part of it and in the European squad. There’s certainly a disconnect (between manager and board).

“It just doesn’t add up, especially when you usually see a club who do their business so well.”

Who else should Celtic have out on loan?

The Hoops currently have five players out on loan, with Luis Palma playing for Lech Poznan and Maik Nawrocki representing Hannover 96.

Stephen Welsh made a deadline day switch to Motherwell, while Odin Thiago Holm and Adam Montgomery were also loaned out.

You could argue Callum Osmand should be within those ranks, because it appears even he is behind the likes of Kenny and Yamada.

The former Fulham striker isn’t in the Europa League squad, so how much game time will the 19-year-old get this season?

Hayato Inamura was destined for a loan exit, with Brendan Rodgers keen on that plan. But Celtic were not able to get a deal done in the transfer window.
