Celtic’s striker position has been a huge talking point this summer.
Last season, Kyogo Furuhashi was leading the line for Celtic, but then he departed during the winter transfer window, and then, Daizen Maeda took things to another level from a central position.
Adam Idah and Johnny Kenny were the backup options, but even with the arrival of Shin Yamada and Callum Osmand, it still isn’t enough for Brendan Rodgers, and he wants more goals ahead of the new campaign.
It remains to be seen if the Celtic manager gets his wish, but one man he was looking at during the 2025 summer transfer window has made a blistering start at his new club.

Evan Ferguson’s rapid start at AS Roma after Celtic links
Evan Ferguson was linked with Celtic, following his six-month loan spell at West Ham United from Brighton last season, where he failed to score.
But instead, Ferguson has made a loan move to Italy, and he has joined AS Roma on a season-long loan, where he hit a 24-minute hat-trick in his first pre-season match for the Italian giants.
That came against Serie D side UniPomezia, whom he scored four goals against, and he has netted another since, this time against Bundesliga 2 side Kaiserslautern.
Who will be Celtic’s starting striker against St Mirren?
Celtic kick off against St Mirren on Sunday for their opening match of the new season, and Rodgers will be hoping his players pick up where they left off by clinching title number 56.
But who starts for Rodgers on Flag Day? And what has pre-season told us? It also needs to be noted that some players haven’t played much, hence the reason behind them not scoring.
- Johnny Kenny (two goals in pre-season)
- Adam Idah (one goal)
- Daizen Maeda
- Callum Osmand
- Shin Yamada (winning penalty in shootout win vs Al-Ahli)
