Celtic’s need to bring in a striker was highlighted this summer when Hyeongyu Oh was ruled out for a number of weeks due to injury.
This morning, 67 Hail Hail told how Celtic are considering Brondby striker, Mathias Kvistgaarden as a possible option to bring to the club.
But who is Kvistgaarden? What type of player is he and would he suit Celtic’s style? I contacted Danish journalist and podcaster, Toke Theilade of Brondby fan media outlet, Vilfort Park, and asked his opinion on the young forward.
Theilade said, “He is a really entertaining small striker. Only 174 cm, but really fast and athletic. His preferred celebration after goals is acrobatics. He is super aggressive and works hard in the press at all times.
“This also earns his team some easy goals as he is good at conquering the ball. He is technically good and can dribble in small spaces. He is also good in the passing game. Unfortunately, his finishing can use some work and that’s why he hasn’t scored as many goals as he could.
“He is versatile and can play as both the front striker, second striker and on the wing. At Brøndby he has mostly been used as either second striker or winger. He got his big breakthrough in the spring and has been one of the best players on the team this season.
“He’s the kind of player that is just really fun to have on your team because he is always giving 100 % for the team, and his passion and winning mentality is just obvious.

“It would hurt us to lose him but I think Celtic would be a great move for him. As a type, he reminds me a little about Teemu Pukki although he is smaller (but faster) as they are both versatile, aggressive and hard working with a good eye for goal and the ability to participate in link-up as well as go one-v-one with defenders.”
With Kyogo Furuhashi as the only recognised striker at the club at the moment, Brendan Rodgers seems to be looking to add another body to the striking department before the window closes in just over ten days’ time.
Yes, Celtic also have Daizen Maeda who can fill in as an able backup option, as can Liel Abada, but with the club participating in four competitions this season, demands on the players are going to be high.
It does seem like Kvistgaarden is a player that would suit Brendan Rodgers’ style of play and he also sounds like he is a player that would excite the fans.
But, he’s clearly not the finished article but at just 21 years old, there is plenty of time for the youngster to develop and hone his goalscoring talents under Rodgers.
