The signing of Maik Nawrocki was welcomed by everyone at Celtic. From the manager to the fans, we were all delighted to have added the Polish u21 international to the squad.

But it seems that it’s not just Celtic who are happy with the transfer. Indeed, Legia Warsaw will also be pleased to make a profit on a player that they purchased for £1.25m just over a year ago.

After Celtic paid £4.3m for the defender [Sky Sports], Legia walk away with a cool £3.05m burning a hole in their bank account.

But that is before they settle up a sell-on clause with Werder Bremen. The German side are due a cash payout as Bremen Sporting Director, Clemens Fritz confirmed today.

Fritz said [Daily Record], “When you look at young players and you see big potential for development, you protect yourself when he makes a future transfer.

“Therefore, yes we have an involvement in his transfer fee to Celtic.”

Whilst Fritz didn’t delve into exactly just how much they are due, German news outlet Bild says that they could be owed as much as 10-20% of the fee paid to Legia by Celtic.

Although he never made a single first-team appearance for the Germans, his potential was clearly spotted before he was sold to Legia Warsaw. Nawrocki was already representing his country at youth level and Fritz spotted the obvious potential in him.

Celtic do seem to have a talented player on their hands and Brendan Rodgers is exactly the kind of manager Nawrocki needs to develop him as the Polish u21 international revealed that he hopes his move to Glasgow will kick-start his senior international career.
