Celtic’s US Summer Tour is well underway now after Brendan Rodgers’ team kicked it off against DC United last night.

The 4-0 win over the MLS side was good preparation for tougher tests that await the Celtic team when they take on English Premier League sides Manchester City and Chelsea over the coming days.

As well as promoting the club Stateside, the US Tour is also helping the Celtic manager prepare his team for the new Scottish Premiership season ahead which kicks off on the 4th of August.

But that is not the only thing the club are doing whilst they embark on their journey across The Pond. Celtic have also planned a superb touch of class whilst in the US and it all started prior to last night’s win over DC United.

Celtic extends its charitable arm to the USA

The Celtic Foundation is also getting involved in the US Tour in its own unique way. The Foundation raises money to help the most vulnerable people in society not just in Glasgow and Scotland, but across Europe and the rest of the world.

And yesterday, Celtic legend Roy Aitken and new signing Viljami Sinisalo started the charity’s work with a €10,000 donation to Washington DC charity SOME.

The donation is the first of three the club are going to make over the coming days as the club intends to make further contributions when they visit North Carolina when they face Manchester City on the 24th of July and then when they move on to Indiana for the Chelsea game on the 27th.

The Celtic Foundation has raised over £27m so far and has helped to build 67 kitchens in Africa as well as supporting dementia charities and others closer to home.

It’s great to see the club keeping close to its roots with these charitable donations as well as allowing the fans to see the team in the US for the first time in over a decade.
