Charlie Mulgrew shuts down Celtic fan plea that won’t make a difference even if the board listens

The Celtic supporters continue to voice their issues with the board.

After weeks of Celtic fan protests, the powers that be at Parkhead recently met with supporters to discuss various issues, with Michael Nicholson and Chris McKay present.

Minutes from that Celtic meeting have also been released, and it’s fair to say that there has been little progression and everything is much of the same ahead of the weekend Premiership clash against Dundee.

Whilst the main gripe from the Celtic Park faithful relates to how the 2025 summer transfer window panned out, the issues around the stadium itself was also discussed by Charlie Mulgrew.

‘Not much investment’ in Celtic Park

There needs to be a lot more love and care shown towards Celtic Park because it needs a refurbishment.

Speaking on Go Radio, that topic was brought up when discussing the board’s meeting with the Celtic Collective.

But whilst Mulgrew agreed that it’s an ‘important’ issue to deal with for the long term, he doesn’t think, even if that gets sorted, it’s going to have any sort of positive impact on what happens on the pitch.

Paul Cooney: “There is also the chat with the Celtic Collective, who had the meeting, what, just a week ago, with Michael Nicholson and Chris McKay.

“I am not sure what the outcome of any of that is, Charlie. A statement came out the other day. I just don’t know where it takes people. You heard the fans earlier. No investment. Not much investment in the stadium anymore.”

Mulgrew: “I don’t think the stadium stuff, I know it’s important in the long term, and that needs to be dealt with.

“But I don’t think, we are talking about, in terms of the stuff on the pitch, is going to have an effect if they get something sorted in the stadium.

“There is something there. I don’t know what it is.”

Reasons behind why Celtic aren’t rebuilding the Main Stand

For decades now, there has been talk of Celtic and Rangers possibly competing in the English Premier League.

But there has been more hype than any sort of action, regardless of whether supporters, on any side, want to see the champions of Scotland competing in England’s top table.

However, about a month ago, Paul John Dykes from A Celtic State of Mind, on Go Radio, spoke about this topic and the interesting viewpoint from those in charge.

Paul John Dykes from A Celtic State of Mind: “I found that really interesting. It was the minutes from the meeting that the club had with the associations and the affiliations.

“Basically, they were talking about the main stands, which is now an ancient relic, no hot water, etc, rebuilding that. They said, ‘it’s not happening whilst we are in the SPFL.’

“That jumped out at me because I didn’t realise that was still on the table – I found it really, really interesting.”
