Let’s take a little break for Celtic VAR chat for a minute and digress over to former Hoops defender, Charlie Mulgrew.

After leaving Celtic in 2016, Mulgrew has enjoyed spells at Blackburn, Wigan, Fleetwood Town, Dundee United and, briefly, at 11th-tier English side, Doncaster City.

Now working mainly in the media doing his punditry work, Mulgrew has detailed how he sees the next step in his career.

Mulgrew said [Scottish Daily Mail], “My best spell as a player was at Celtic, the year I won all the Player of the Year awards.

“That was under Neil Lennon and when I look back on that, I realise how good his man management was. It was simple, it wasn’t rocket science and I probably took it for granted at the time.

‘He told you when you did well and he told you when you hadn’t done well. He told you straight. I took a lot from that. I felt we had a connection. And that’s the side of the game I’ve been getting into.

‘I’ve done a course recently and it’s made me reflect on managers I’ve worked under. Some were good at it and others weren’t. One of Neil Lennon’s strong points was being his true self and the players felt that from him.”

Mulgrew has coaching experience at Dundee United but did put his boots back on after signing for Doncaster City for a short period last month.

Now looking to get into the coaching side of the game, Mulgrew would be a great asset to any club as his experience of winning five league titles and two Scottish Cups alongside his Champions League endeavours would be vital to any club with ambitions to adding a former player with a winning mentality to their backroom and coaching team.
