Celtic had to battle to a point after being given a scare in Dundee.
Tony Docherty’s side made Celtic work hard at Dens Park after the Tayside club battled back from going behind twice to almost record a famous win against the Bhoys.
Had it not been for Arne Engels’ late penalty at Dundee, the fans could have been heading for a long journey back to Celtic Park with no points instead of the one they had to really earn at Dens Park.
There is one player, however, that Chris Sutton noticed that didn’t give 100% for the Bhoys’ cause and reckons that the new summer signing has underestimated the Scottish game.

Chris Sutton says Celtic defender Auston Trusty is taking Scottish football ‘for granted’
Sutton wrote in the Daily Record, “Football has a funny way of biting you on the backside, you only have to look at Auston Trusty the other night in Dundee.
“He thought he could coast it but Dundee under Tony Docherty, a manager I greatly admire, masterminded an opponent who didn’t give the champions respite.
“I don’t think the USA international will have come up against many players like Simon Murray in his career. Over the piece, Trusty has acquitted himself this season but you can’t take Scottish football for granted.”
Auston Trusty’s Scottish Premiership stats have been impressive for Celtic
Trusty arrived at Celtic for £6m this summer as Brendan Rodgers looked to bolster his defence for the season ahead.
But despite the criticism of Trusty’s performance for Celtic against Dundee, the American defender has been one of Rodgers’ best players this season.
| Scottish Premiership stats | Apearances | Tackle success | Passing accuracy | Duels won | Aerial duels won | Interceptions | Average rating |
| Auston Trusty | 13 | 59.3% | 93.6% | 62.5% | 58.3% | 9 | 7.64 |
With an average rating of 7.64, Trusty is Celtic’s fourth-best player equal to Alistair Johnston (7.64) but better than Cameron Carter-Vickers (7.46), Arne Engels (7.33) and Kyogo Furuhashi (7.15).
So whilst criticism of Trusty’s performance against Dundee is valid, there should be a bigger picture applied when looking at his season at Celtic as a whole.
