Chris Sutton blasts Celtic board over Martin O’Neill recruitment crisis after Falkirk win

Chris Sutton took aim at the Celtic board immediately after Martin O’Neill guided the Bhoys to a crucial win over Falkirk.

O’Neill’s Celtic were lacklustre in the Falkirk Stadium as a single Benjamin Nygren goal helped the Hoops take all three points back to Glasgow.

Celtic huffed and puffed against John McGlynn’s side and, in truth, were lucky not to be behind after the Navy Blue’s squandered two gilt-edged chances.

Who deserves the man of the match from that win?

But it was Celtic who were the victors to climb into second place still six points behind Hearts at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

Despite Chris Sutton admitting the win was ‘excellent’ he fired shots at the Celtic board and asked a big transfer question.

Chris Sutton accuses the Celtic board of taking Martin O’Neill for granted

As Martin O’Neill picks up his second win in a row, Sutton fired shots at the Celtic board as the club meanders its way into the 15th day of the transfer window.

Sutton said on X, “Excellent win for a lacklustre Celtic. Yet again Martin is doing an incredible job but he won’t and can’t keep getting away with it with this squad.

“Brave to take the job again but he is being taken for granted… where has the recruitment plan gone?”

That is blistering from the Celtic hero and echoes the sentiment of every single Hoops supporter this January.

Celtic appear to be actively looking in the transfer market because there are links being published daily. So who is O’Neill looking at right now?

The latest Celtic transfer news is that the Hoops are said to be monitoring Hibs starlet Keiron Bowie. With a £6m price tag, it’s unlikely the Parkhead board will meet that.

Croatian winger Franko Kovacevic is also reportedly on Celtic’s radar as the manager looks to beef up his attacking options, which were severely lacking in the Falkirk win.

And finally, Celtic may also be in the market for a new goalkeeper as Man City’s Stefan Ortega comes into the mix.

Plenty of links, but no real offers. Let’s hope the board heed Sutton’s warning soon and get O’Neill the reinforcements Celtic so clearly need.
