Chris Sutton can’t resist another Michael Beale dig as he admires big Celtic return

Former Celtic forward Chris Sutton couldn’t resist another dig at Rangers boss Michael Beale ahead of the new season.

Sutton and Beale have clashed regularly in the media in 2023, and it’s clear they don’t have much time for each other.

Things have been quieter over the summer but it seems like Sutton couldn’t resist another Ibrox mention as he sized up the battle for the title at the start of another season.

Sutton is a pundit for Sky Sports now, and he’s penned his thoughts for the outlet ahead of the weekend.

“I don’t think anybody would argue that Brendan isn’t a good appointment,” he said.

“They would just argue the fact that he should never have left when he did and I thought he was wrong to do that.

“I do though admire the fact he’s come back with a point to prove. Is Brendan a good coach? Absolutely. Is he taking over a good team? Yes, albeit he is a player down and the standards were so high.

“We know Glasgow is unforgiving and there can only be one winner so it’s going to be a really interesting season.

Michael Beale will have learned from last season. He was quite bullish coming in and I think he ended the season with his tail between his legs.

“He will have learned from last season’s League Cup final and Scottish Cup semi-final defeats to Celtic and his ‘lucky’ comments.”

So there we have it. Another Premiership season is almost upon us and it will pack the same drama of previous years.

Sutton will be a much bigger part of things this season than he has been recently. Apart from the odd cup game, the ex-forward’s thoughts have been kept mainly for Twitter in recent times.

His online thoughts still get a decent reaction, just ask Beale and Todd Cantwell. But this season he’ll be a bigger part of proceedings on a week-to-week basis.

Sky Sports are showing both Glasgow sides this weekend. Our clash against Ross County is live at 12:30pm on Saturday, while Kilmarnock vs Rangers is at 5:15pm.
