Chris Sutton doesn’t mince his words when it comes to speaking about Celtic.

The Hoops hero, who spent six years at Celtic Park in his playing career, is now one of the media big guns when it comes to all matters in Glasgow.

And with intense debate now ongoing about Celtic’s business during the summer transfer window, Sutton has been having his say in the aftermath.

Daizen Maeda’s bombshell transfer revelation has stunned the club and fanbase alike, after the Japan forward made clear that he wanted to leave the club during the window.

And with a fan-wide letter to the Celtic hierarchy now awaiting an official response, Sutton has joined in on piling the pressure onto a board which isn’t matching its self-proclaimed aims of being “world class in every area.”

Same Brendan Rodgers problems from his first spell have come back again says Chris Sutton

Brendan Rodgers’ first spell at Celtic infamously ended abruptly when he decided to jump ship to Leicester midway through the 2018-19 season.

The team was on course to complete a historic treble-treble – but with his European ambitions struggling to be met in the transfer market, Rodgers felt he had achieved all he could.

He has given a different message this time around, but the same problems are arising. For Sutton, there is next-to zero chance of him staying beyond the length of his current contract.

Speaking in his column for the Daily Record, he said: “Back in 2018, they managed to get to January then put together a winning run to leave Rangers in their wake, so the title was all but in the bag by the time Rodgers departed.

“It was still a shock when he did, but it’s a different story this time around. The same problems and divides from his first spell have come back in his second stint and then some.

“And this time wouldn’t just be a surprise if he stayed beyond this season – it would be a miracle.”

With the board developing a record of failing to fully back their managers, the job could be a hard sell to an external candidate should Rodgers decide to leave.

Celtic are losing Brendan Rodgers by not backing him

Brendan Rodgers is careful about the words he uses when addressing the media, ensuring everyone that there are no issues in his relationship with the individuals upstairs.

A recent fan-led letter to the club has said that the club’s lack of transfer investment and planning will lead to his departure from Celtic Park.

Rodgers’ silence is getting increasingly deafening, with the international break putting a pause on his press conferences until the build-up to the Hoops’ next fixture against Kilmarnock.

But regardless of what the Northern Irishman says on the window, his real thoughts will be evident in whatever decision he eventually makes on his Parkhead future.
