The fact that there is just a debate about whether Celtic should sack Wilfried Nancy proves how wrong this has all gone.
Celtic have been under some dark clouds this season, but nothing will probably top what has unfolded during this past week.
Losing to Hearts in the race for the Premiership title, getting outclassed by AS Roma in the Europa League, and then Celtic’s 3-1 defeat to St Mirren in the League Cup final at Hampden on Sunday.
All were deserved. There can be no complaints, and now Nancy has lost all three matches, with the supporters wanting him gone, and Chris Sutton was trying to get his head around it all.
Do you agree with Chris Sutton’s assessment on Wilfired Nancy after Celtic’s defeat to St Mirren?
Should Celtic sack Wilfried Nancy?
Martin O’Neill’s successful interim spell in charge did throw a spanner in the works, and it did make life tougher for Nancy.
Speaking on 606 on BBC Radio 5 Live Sport, Sutton stated that ‘a lot of Celtic fans’ are saying that ‘enough is enough’, and they want Nancy to go.
The former striker then directly responded to a Celtic supporter who wants Nancy sacked, as the Frenchman was also compared to Russell Martin after his unforgettable short spell at Rangers this term.
Either way, Sutton wasn’t getting on board with the idea that Nancy should go, even if those calls are now starting to grow.
“Against St Mirren, it was a really sore one,” said Sutton. “This was the game where the Celtic fans were expecting the team to win, and they didn’t.
“Wilfried Nancy is coming from the MLS. He did good things at Columbus Crew. He came in midseason. A lot of Celtic fans are saying after three games, ‘enough is enough.’ I mean, is that fair?
“So if you (responding to Celtic fan) are saying he’s Celtic’s version of Russell Martin. You are saying it’s time for him to go?
“He’s trying to implement a certain way of playing. The players clearly aren’t responding. But is it fair to sack somebody after three games? Is it fair, after a week, to sack somebody?
“Were the team playing that well under Martin O’Neill?”
Robbie Savage: “They won seven out of eight, Chris.”
Sutton: “Yeah, if you wanted to go through those. I thought he (O’Neill) did a brilliant job – Nancy was the board’s number one target. He has come in, I think all managers need time to bed in their own ideas and way of playing. I do think it’s a problem for him.
“I always think managers should always get a longer time, certainly more than three games. What’s the record? Is it Frank de Boer’s four games (at Crystal Palace)?”

Sutton is unhappy with ‘absolutely bonkers’ criticism of Nancy
There has been a lot of noise around Nancy even before he arrived, and that was escalated just after his first match.
That clearly hasn’t gone down well with Sutton, who explained in detail why this past week has gone wrong for the man in Celtic’s dugout.
“I mean, it just seems absolutely bonkers,” added Sutton.
“Some of the criticism levelled at him. People are having a pop at the colour of his trainers. Bringing out a tactics board so he could show the players visually.
“He hasn’t had time on the training ground. I think it’s more to do with, he has gone in there. He has thought a lot of the Celtic players are actually better than they actually are, and he is coaching them to play in a certain way, and they are not quite getting it.
“St Mirren, a well-organised team, schooled them. I think Wilfried Nancy has a problem or two.”
