It’s time for Celtic to take positive steps forward.

Are the long-term issues at Celtic going to be fixed in the coming months? No, they are not.

But after Celtic sacked Wilfried Nancy on Monday, the club can still appoint somebody in the short-term to get the team back to winning ways and back to the top of the Premiership table.

Chris Sutton has reacted to Nancy’s sacking, and he made it clear who he wants in the Parkhead dugout right at this moment in time.

What message would you send Wilfried Nancy as Celtic sack the manager?

Chris Sutton calls for Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney return to Celtic

Celtic should never have ended Martin O’Neill’s interim spell in charge, and now Sutton wants his former coach to come back.

Speaking on Sky Sports News (05/01/26), Sutton stated that Celtic need to get back to ‘winning games’, and also secure Champions League football for the next campaign.

That’s why he wants O’Neill, alongside Shaun Maloney, to rescue the Hoops again, after they won every domestic game in charge during their eight-game spell.

“I think short-term that would probably be the safest move for Celtic to do that and bring Shaun Maloney back,” said Sutton.

“In the short term, it’s just about winning games and giving themselves a chance of winning the Premiership.

“Martin did brilliantly in a short space of time. Knowing Martin as I do and having spoken to Martin during his brief time he was at Celtic, he was on record saying that the club need to add in January.

“That would seem to be the safest and most sensible option.

“I am all for planning long-term at football clubs, but in the short term, Celtic have to think about the here and now. Winning the Premiership, and trying to get back into the Champions League next season.”
