Chris Sutton saddened by what will happen at Celtic in the summer, as Brendan Rodgers vows to ‘fight’

Plans will already be underway for how Celtic will go about their transfer business in the summer.

The most recent window, over the winter period, was an interesting one, with the unexpected happening at Celtic, from departures to incomings. 

Jota’s return was welcome, but Kyogo Furuhashi’s exit was a surprise. Alex Valle had his loan cut short, despite looking like a promising young talent from Barcelona, and Jeffrey Schlupp came in from Crystal Palace.

If there are any surprises in the summer, then the Celtic Park faithful will be hopeful that it’s more good news than negative.

One thing everyone is looking forward to is the return of one Kieran Tierney on a free transfer from Arsenal – six years after leaving Glasgow.

But who else will be Celtic’s left-back option?

Chris Sutton is saddened by Greg Taylor’s possible Celtic exit 

On Saturday, Celtic thrashed Kilmarnock to edge closer to the Premiership title, with Brendan Rodgers ringing the changes, including Greg Taylor coming back into the XI.

In what could be the 27-year-old’s final few months in green and white colours, Taylor produced a Man of the Match display.

It impressed Chris Sutton, who stated that he was ‘the best player on the park’, but made it clear that the club will ‘miss him’ if he goes, as he told Sky Sports Football (12/04/25). 

“I think he has been the best player on the park for the first hour,” said Sutton.

“A really intelligent footballer. If he does leave Celtic Park this summer, they are going to miss him.”

Brendan Rodgers vows to fight for Taylor’s future

One man who has remained by Taylor’s side, even during the tough moments this season, has been his manager.

If it were up to the man in Celtic’s dugout, then Taylor would have signed a new contract by now, but that’s not the case.

Rodgers made it clear, as quoted by BBC Sport, that he will ‘fight’ until the end for Taylor, so perhaps something could yet happen. 

“I’ll always fight to the very end for a player,” said Rodgers.

“Greg’s earned the right to make the decision he wants. You see in the performance (against Kilmarnock) how important someone in that role is, he plays like a midfield player for us.

“We’ll see what happens at the end of the season.”
