It’s that time of the Glasgow Derby weekend when Celtic and Rangers pundits deliver their big match predictions.
Many Celtic fans can head into the derby feeling confident after watching their team rack up ten goals in two games after the Bhoys’ disappointing Hibs defeat.
With a 16-point gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, Celtic can afford to drop points in the Glasgow Derby but that thought will not enter a single fan’s head.
Celtic are in great form domestically whilst Rangers are seriously struggling, so when Kris Boyd, former Hoops hero Chris Sutton and ex-Hearts manager Steven Naismith were asked for their big game predictions, it was Boyd’s predictable answer that Sutton reacted to.
Kris Boyd’s Celtic vs Rangers prediction gets the Chris Sutton eye-roll
Gordon Duncan asked the trio how they thought the big game would and first up was Celtic hero Sutton as he laid it out straight. Kind of.
Jokingly, Sutton said on The Warm Up, “I think Celtic will win. I’m going to stick my neck out. 8-0.”
Boyd, right on Sutton’s coattails, said, “7-0 [to Rangers]. I think Rangers can get a draw and go and frustrate Celtic. I think they can get a draw.”
With that, Sutton delivered an eye-roll [below] as Boyd sits on the fence and looks to deliver an answer that goes against what every other pundit, including former Rangers striker Steven Naismith, thinks.
Naismith went against his old club and said, “I think Celtic will win, but it will be a tight game. It won’t be a pretty game.
Boyd replied, “I think that’s what usually happens when you just expect someone to win the game. I mean, it could happen.”
Celtic’s last five Parkhead Glasgow Derby results vs Rangers makes Boyd’s prediction look daft
Celtic have been absolutely dominant over Rangers in recent year, but at Celtic Park, the Bhoys have been imperious.
So here are the last five results Celtic have had against Rangers at Parkhead which show why Boyd’s prediction looks daft.
- 01.09.2024: Celtic 3 v 0 Rangers
- 11.05.2024: Celtic 2 v 1 Rangers
- 30.12.2023: Celtic 2 v 1 Rangers
- 08.04.2023: Celtic 3 v 2 Rangers
- 03.09.2022: Celtic 4 v 0 Rangers
14 goals scored and just four conceded is a record that points towards another Celtic Park win against the Ibrox club.
The last time Rangers recorded a draw at Parkhead was in a 1-1 result way back in March 2021 and the last Rangers win in the east end of Glasgow was in October 2020 in the COVID season.
Whilst Brendan Rodgers and the Celtic supporters will not take a win for granted, all the signs point towards another three derby points for the Bhoys.
