Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir have announced the signing of Celtic left-back Boli Bolingoli on a one-year loan deal.

The club have stated on their official website that the deal comes with an option to buy the player at the end of the agreement.

Boli has been frozen out at Parkhead ever since he went on a secret jaunt to Spain and failed to quarantine upon his return. He was already second-choice left-back beforehand, with Greg Taylor featuring regularly for Neil Lennon in the position over the course of 2020.

His actions forced Celtic to watch on as key matches against St Mirren and Aberdeen were postponed respectively. Since then, the Hoops have been playing catch-up in the Premiership.

The saga left fans furious with the player’s actions, and his exit from Parkhead felt inevitable in the end.

A deal we all expected

It was always going to be next to impossible for Boli to continue at Celtic Park. Such was the anger amongst the Parkhead support, his road to redemption never looked a realistic one.

He’ll now head to Turkey looking to effectively rebuild his reputation. However, regardless of how the deal goes, it’s difficult to ever see him in a Celtic jersey again.

Regardless, Boli’s departure leaves Celtic with only one natural left-back at the club in Taylor after Jonny Hayes also left with his contract expiring over the summer.

All eyes will now switch to who comes in to replace the disgraced full-back, who leaves Glasgow with a sour taste in supporters’ mouths.

In other news, Celtic supporters were delighted to see their midfielder make his debut after eight months without an appearance.
