Swansea City have confirmed what Darren O’Dea’s next steps will be after the appointment of new manager Vitor Matos.
O’Dea stepped in as Swansea’s interim manager after they made the decision to sack Alan Sheehan following their poor start to the season.
This means that Adam Idah, who joined Swansea for £7m this summer, will be working under his third manager of the season after previously playing under Brendan Rodgers at the start of the 2025/26 campaign.

Darren O’Dea leaves Swansea City
Matos’ appointment means that the Swans are heading in a new direction and, as a result, want a different set of coaches.
They confirmed in their announcement of Matos’ arrival that O’Dea would be leaving alongside fellow coach Richard Stearman.
Their statement said: “The club is working with Matos on finalising a backroom staff that provides the support and expertise to give him the best chance of being successful.
“Club legend Leon Britton has joined the coaching team on a short-term basis, while Joe Allen will also assist with the transition.
“Additionally, Darren O’Dea and Richard Stearman have left the club, we thank them for their efforts and wish them and their families well for the future.”

How long was Darren O’Dea at Swansea City?
O’Dea left his role as Celtic’s player pathway manager in June to take up a job at Swansea following Sheehan’s permanent appointment.
To leave so early will be disappointing, but it is unlikely he will have the chance to return to Celtic.
Shaun Maloney is expected to return to the role once Wilfried Nancy’s expected appointment goes through on 1 December.
