The Celtic board has suffered another major own goal after the recent adjournment of the 2025 AGM.

Peter Lawwell adjourned the AGM 60 minutes early following a series of protests against comments made by the chairman, as well as Ross Desmond, who was there in place of father Dermot.

Fans have been angry for weeks and protests against the board have stepped up ever since Brendan Rodgers’ resignation.

This latest shambles is something that has been brewing for a while, and the board have only themselves to blame.

Poll: Do you have faith in the Celtic board?

Celtic protests will surely intensify after AGM disaster

Those who have read and heard the speeches from the likes of the younger Desmond and Lawwell will only walk away feeling angrier.

Every comment seemed like another attack on the 60,000 that pay their hard-earned money to come to Celtic Park and those that follow the club away in the league and on European nights.

To make matters worse, supporters weren’t even given a chance to have the right of reply. At the first opportunity, the hierarchy left and, as revealed in Celtic’s statement, have decided to vote on the resolutions behind closed doors.

Celtic statement on AGM postponement

Such conduct is completely unacceptable and hugely disappointing, and while today’s events are completely outwith our control, clearly we regret the impact on our shareholders who were deprived of the opportunity to take part in an orderly and constructive meeting.

Celtic fans have been left with even more questions and rightfully just want their voices to be heard.

Protests have been a theme at games in recent weeks and those in suits at the top of the tree should not be surprised when they ramp things up another notch following this fiasco.

There is no way back for this Celtic board

If there was even the slightest hope of relations between the fans and hierarchy being restored, those feelings have evaporated.

Desmond, Lawwell, Michael Nicholson and the rest of the top order have all made a rod for their own back.

Even the most optimistic of Celtic fans have turned. Since 1888, this club has been brought up on success and transparency. All of that is missing from today’s set up.

Instead, supporters feel like they’ve been left on read as the top order continue to cover their ears and pat themselves on the back for something that is clearly not working.

The only way that feeling of pride and unwavering support will return is if those culpable hold their hands up and walk away.
