The League Cup final between Celtic and Rangers is likely to dominate the headlines for the Hoops fans over the coming days.

Now that Celtic’s Champions League duty is over until January, the opportunity to win the first piece of silverware this season now takes precedence.

So far, 67 Hail Hail has shared how Ross McCormack was left stunned at hearing what Rangers fans are saying about beating Celtic.

We’ve also discussed Barry Ferguson’s worry over Celtic hero, Daizen Maeda causing Rangers problems at Hampden.

Now it’s the turn of Ally McCoist whose Rangers team still has to face Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur before the big Hampden final against Celtic.

Ally McCoist gets ‘honest’ about Rangers’ chances of beating Celtic and Spurs

McCoist was asked by Alan Brazil if Rangers would rest players for the Spurs game with the League Cup final against Celtic in mind.

McCoist told talkSPORT, “That can’t happen. And you’ve got to be honest and say that Rangers, right now are playing tonight and Sunday, two sides that are better than them.

“That’s not necessarily saying they can’t go and get a result in both games, which they’ll be aiming to do.

“But it’ll be a big, big ask. But in terms of, you know, looking towards Sunday before tonight, no no, that cannot happen.”

And when challenged if he would rather take a ‘battering’ from the London club if it meant being guaranteed a win against Celtic on Sunday, McCoist couldn’t bring himself to choose.

McCoist continued, “Don’t be silly, I’d take a draw and a win on Sunday. Define battering. I’m thinking right now because if we get beat tonight, we’ve still got a fairly good chance of qualification.

“So in answer to your question, I’ll take a 2-0 tonight and a win on Sunday.”

It’s a huge week for Rangers boss Philippe Clement who is under serious pressure right now. As for Brendan Rodgers, the Celtic manager is on the cusp of Champions League qualification.

And if he can negotiate a cup win against Rangers, that would set up the Parkhead club’s season heading into the busy January period and the Ibrox Glasgow Derby.
