"Disrespectful"; Celtic hero Giorgos Giakoumakis gets into the head of whining Ryan Jack

Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis has managed to wind-up Ryan Jack and presumably the rest of the Rangers dressing room with comments about the strength of the Bhoys.

As we’ve discussed on 67 Hail Hail before, Giakoumakis gave a brilliant verdict of the title race in February, claiming that Celtic were better in every department compared to the Ibrox lot. He cited the 3-0 derby victory over them as convincing evidence.

It was fighting talk but, importantly, it has been backed up with performances on the pitch. Since then, the Greek striker has been on a scoring tear and now sits on 12 goals for the season. Celtic are now three points ahead at the top of the table.

Asked about Giakoumakis’ comments today, Jack told a press conference [The Rangers Review]: “I don’t agree with that, I don’t get that at all, I think it’s disrespectful to come out with that.

“But it is what it is, we will go quietly about our business, do our talking and work hard in-house and come Sunday, be up for the challenge.”

Personally, I’m a big fan of Giakoumakis’ confidence. Although some argued at the time his comments went a bit overboard, I didn’t mind it.

I don’t buy into the argument that it is extra motivation for Rangers. There’s nothing extra needed with this fixture and title race. They are already up for it.

What Jack’s comments do show is that the actions and comments of Celtic players are getting in the heads of Rangers players and I think that can work to our advantage. I back our players to stand up to the challenge in that environment.

So Jack can moan all he likes about Giakoumakis. This isn’t really a rivalry built for respect. It’s about winning. We’ll see how it all ends up by the end of the season.
