‘Especially Matt O’Riley’ – Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler blown away by Celtic hero

Celtic hero Matt O’Riley is back in the fold at Brighton.

The former Hoops midfielder made an appearance in Brighton’s win over Liverpool and created an assist for the winning goal in the 3-2 win over the Premier League champions.

O’Riley has had an unfortunate start to his Brighton career after an injury sustained on his debut kept the Celtic icon out of action for the first four months of his Premier League start.

And speaking after the win, Brighton boss, Fabian Hurzeler paid tribute to O’Riley for his part in the famous win over the Anfield club.

O’Riley created the assist for Jack Hinselwood’s winner in the 85th minute to spark scenes of joy in the Falmer Stadium.

And after the match, Hurzeler raved about O’Riley who had ‘a big impact on the goal’.

Hurzeler told Brighton FC, “I can just be happy for the players, especially Matt O’Riley and Jack [Hinshelwood], who had a big impact on the goal.

“I’m very happy for Harry [Howell]. He had a breadth of development in his young age so far in the season.

“I was also happy with Diego [Gomez]. So everyone had an impact on the game. And that’s what I always say, like you can always win.

“We can only win when you have a good crew of togetherness when everyone knows his role, when everyone knows when I can come inside, or when as a sub, when I can have an impact on the game and they proved that today.”

Brighton fans are loving former Celtic fan O’Riley

After Brighton’s defeat to Leicester this season, the fans praised O’Riley’s creative spark even though they lost the match.

O’Riley shone in another defeat, this time to Crystal Palace after Brighton fans labelled him the team’s ‘bright spark’.

And even after Brighton got battered by Nottingham Forest earlier this season, it was Celtic fans who were cursing his move down south as his career continued to stall.

Now back in the fold, Celtic fans will be hoping that O’Riley will see more action before the end of the season in the hope that his second year in the Premier League will be the year he properly showcases his talents.
