Matt O’Riley has Celtic fans all saying same thing after Brighton mauled by Nottingham Forest

Matt O’Riley made the move to Brighton over the summer in a money-spinning move.

The playmaker switched to the Premier League club to further his career following immense pressure at Celtic that he likely won’t feel with the Seagulls.

Still, the Dane is an ambitious and respectful guy who was excellent in Glasgow and deserved his £30million transfer when it came around.

He is yet to get a real run in the team with just five starts from 12 appearances so far.

A brutal injury suffered on his debut has certainly had an impact on game time, though, as it took a while for O’Riley to get back up to speed.

He came off the bench this afternoon, though, in what was an afternoon to forget as quickly as possible, to say the least.

Matt O’Riley’s Brighton were hit for seven vs Forest

Brighton was annihilated 7-0 by surprise package Nottingham Forest today who sit third in the division following an incredible campaign so far.

O’Riley could not provide any answers after coming on at half-time.

In response to the defeated club’s social media posts of the result, hundreds of Brighton fans vented their fury at manager Fabian Hurzeler and his squad over the hammering.

But O’Riley was singled out by Celtic fans in particular who urged him to get “back up the road” in a Parkhead return where he would never have to suffer that kind of domestic scoreline again.

Celtic fans react to Matt O’Riley and say ‘grass not greener’

One wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “Matt O’Riley really left for this s***,” as another commented: “At this rate I can see Matt O’Riley paying for his own transfer back to Celtic”.

One commented: “Matt O’Riley doesn’t deserve this,” as a fourth added: “Matt O’Riley must be wondering what he’s come to.”

Another said: “Matt O’Riley man, grass isn’t always greener.”

O’Riley’s time at Celtic may have passed but Brendan Rodgers has been attempting to get the band back together this season.

Jota arrived last week and Kieran Tierney is on his way in summer after Arsenal dug their heels in over a January switch.
