ESPN pundit shares what was ‘unbelievable’ about what Wilfried Nancy did in his first day at Celtic

You sense the time is ticking for Wilfried Nancy at Celtic.

Unfortunately, Celtic are making the headlines for all the wrong reasons, not just in Scotland, but also over in the United States of America.

Nancy joined Celtic from Columbus Crew, and many were questioning the club’s call to bring in somebody from the MLS.

Added to the fact that Nancy had a very tough opening schedule, little time to work on the training ground, and he was also going to completely change the system.

All in all, it’s not putting the Frenchman in a good light from those talking about him in the States.

ESPN pundits react to Wilfried Nancy’s horror start at Celtic

Craig Burley shared with the American audience on ESPN what he has been told about Nancy from those in Scotland, including how he is ‘out of his depth.’

That’s when former Norway international Jan Aage Fjortoft explained that, in Nancy’s first day at Celtic, he ‘lost the dressing room.’

The ESPN pundit simply can’t believe Celtic allowed Martin O’Neill to leave in the manner in which they did, and then replaced him with Nancy.

Craig Burley: “I don’t know what’s going to happen, but what I can tell you from reading between the lines, with a lot of the journalists in Scotland that I know.

“The terminology they are using at the moment is ‘out of his depth.’”

Jan Aage Fjortoft: “He lost the dressing room when he arrived, the first day. I was speaking to some people up in Scotland, and it was unbelievable.

“Did you see his comments after the cup final, when he said, ‘we started the game well’, but then ‘we conceded a goal after a minute.’

“You can say a lot about footballers. We can be stupid. We could do this and that. But we know a coach who is coming into the dressing room if he is the right deal. Or is he a wannabe?

“I don’t know this coach. You Americans know him much, much better than me. How can you? I am not just talking about the coach of Celtic.

“How can the management there, before a cup final, take out Martin O’Neill, who just steadied the ship. I can’t believe that. A proud club like Celtic is doing what they have done.”

Will Nancy be in charge beyond Aberdeen?

Unless Celtic make a very late call, you presume that Nancy will now be in charge for the clash against Aberdeen on Sunday afternoon.

There have been calls that Nancy could be booted out, but so far, he stays in his position.

It’s pretty simple: if he doesn’t beat Aberdeen, and especially if he loses, then he will be gone by the time he can get into his car at Parkhead.

But if he picks up his first win, then he can look forward to the rest of the fixtures over the festive period, including a clash against Rangers after the turn of the year.
