‘Every time’ – Brendan Rodgers told to ‘never start’ Celtic duo again after displays vs St Mirren

There were a few positives to take from Flag Day.

Celtic beat St Mirren 1-0 on the opening weekend of the Scottish Premiership campaign and are already two points ahead of Rangers.

Luke McCowan was impressive off the bench, while Benjamin Nygren is showing signs of real promise in midfield alongside Reo Hatate.

However, Celtic’s attacking prowess was lacking and it’s a big reason why they left it until the 87th minute to score the crucial goal.

And one fed up Open Goal pundit and former Celtic youth player has blasted two of Sunday’s front three, while making a plea to boss Brendan Rodgers.

Si Ferry issues brutal plea about Yang Hyun-jun & Adam Idah

Current East Kilbride assistant manager Si Ferry is finished with watching striker Adam Idah and winger Yang Hyun-jun play from the start for Celtic, as both did against the Buddies.

He doesn’t want to see them named in the starting XI ever again for the Hoops, with his Open Goal co-pundits Andy Halliday and Paul Slane agreeing that Yang in particular is more effective as a substitute.

Ferry: “I’m going to make a plea, Celtic should never start Yang or Idah again in the starting XI, the two of them together.”

Halliday: “Are you done with them already?”

Slane: “I agree.”

Ferry: “How are Celtic now at the stage where Rangers have got Antman… and they’ve got Yang playing wide right? Has Yang had two good games in a row, or am I being harsh here?

Halliday: “I think all of his best games come off the bench.

Slane: “Every time he starts, he’s not great. But the striker issue is a real problem.”

Pressure on Idah to perform for Celtic

Much has been said about Idah over the course of pre-season and the last few days.

Rodgers warned Idah that he needs to ‘come alive’ having put in a poor first-half performance against Sporting CP last month.

Charlie Mulgrew has backed the Irishman to have a good season for Celtic, but 67 Hail Hail rated him 5/10 for his display against St Mirren.

Rodgers, however, thought Idah was ‘excellent’ in the game, something that probably baffled quite a number of Celtic fans.

Kris Boyd actually thinks Rodgers does not trust Idah to be Celtic’s number one striker in the long term. Can the forward and Yang prove their doubters wrong?
