There is an argument to be made that Celtic and West Ham United supporters are unhappy with their transfer business this summer.
There has been one link between the two sides this summer, and that’s Celtic academy player Daniel Cummings joining West Ham.
That was a free transfer for the London club, but could Graham Potter’s side now have competition from Celtic for another free transfer on the market?
Josh Brownhill left Burnley at the end of June, after helping Scott Parker’s side earn promotion to the Premier League last season, and now he is a wanted man.

Celtic can’t sign West Ham United transfer target Josh Brownhill
67 Hail Hail revealed in November that Celtic are looking at Brownhill, as he was expected to see out his contract, and that has now happened.
But along with the champions of Scotland, it has been suggested that West Ham are also looking at Brownhill, after his 18 goals from midfield during Burnley’s promotion.
When Andy Halliday heard that Celtic could be adding another midfielder to their ranks, with Brownhill mentioned, he told Open Goal why the deal can’t happen.
“They can’t sign another midfielder,” insisted Halliday. “I feel as if all Celtic do is sign midfielders, and they are linked with the boy Josh Brownhill.
“They are linked with him. You can’t sign another midfielder. But I feel Celtic always sign midfielders. I always kind of felt that.
“Even when that’s the area for me, they are set. You have got six that could easily play in the team.”
Brendan Rodgers’ midfield options
Two places are cemented in Celtic’s midfield, and that’s captain Callum McGregor starting alongside Reo Hatate.
But after that, there is a place up for grabs, with summer signing Benjamin Nygren starting Celtic’s win over St Mirren on the opening game of the new season.
Not forgetting the host of midfielders Rodgers has on the bench.
- Callum McGregor
- Reo Hatate
- Benjamin Nygren
- Paulo Bernardo
- Arne Engels
- Luke McCowan
