The new players are starting to come in at Celtic following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.

In some cases, it’s the old faces returning, such as Kieran Tierney donning Celtic colours again, but that’s for the senior side.

Tierney knows exactly what it’s like having to make your way through Celtic’s academy because that’s exactly what Isaac English faces.

Amid all the talk about Brendan Rodgers needing to bulk up his senior squad, the club has also added to their youth via Greenock Morton.

English has joined Celtic, with many supporters not knowing much about the player because he is yet to make a senior appearance for Morton and has been working his way through the ranks.

But the Celtic Park faithful have some answers as to what their new signing is like.

What type of player is Celtic’s new signing, Isaac English?

A lot of Celtic fans want the club to sign another centre-back, and help enhance a defence that has produced mixed performances in 2025.

Whilst English won’t provide anything now, he is a centre-back by trade and a player to look forward to in the coming years.

Scottish coach and analyst John Walker has shared on social media what type of player English is, including how he has ‘everything’ you want from a modern-day defender.

Walker also explained the success English has had at the U18 levels, including training with Morton’s first team before being snapped up by Scotland’s most successful club.

‘Isaac English: Cappielow to Celtic FC,’ wrote Walker.

‘A very talented Central Defender with everything you’d want in a modern defender; Physicality, Pace, Quality Passing & Composure on the Ball.

‘He won the U18s Title with Greenock Morton & was training with the 1st Team at times throughout the season.

‘He will join the Celtic B Team and will undoubtedly improve under coach & former Celtic/Scotland CB Stephen McManus. Very Exciting Pathway Ahead, Congrats Isaac. 👏.

‘I see the work Del, Brad & the rest of the In-Motion guys put in to their clients in helping them develop throughout their career with real care, attention & support to ensure they can maximise their potential. ❤️’

Will Brendan Rodgers give Celtic’s youth more of a chance?

Rodgers’ remit is to win the title, and he has done that four out of four times over his two spells as the Celtic manager.

But supporters would like to see the youth handed more chances, so will their minutes increase next term?

During the recently concluded season, where Celtic narrowly missed out on a Treble, a number of young guns were seen for the first time.
