Fabrizio Romano has dropped a late-night Liverpool transfer rumour and if it comes to fruition, it will have implications for Celtic.

It’s almost transfer silly-season time and it’s a period of the calendar that excites many Celtic supporters. Fans love nothing more than new players coming in to see how they can take the club forward.

Brendan Rodgers will undoubtedly have targets in mind as he looks to strengthen his Celtic first-team squad ahead of the season ahead.

With a dangerous Champions League qualifier for Celtic to negotiate early next summer, Rodgers needs to get his business done early but an update on Liverpool by Fabrizio Romano could help the Hoops boss’ pursuit of quality additions when the window opens in June.

Fabrizio Romano says Celtic hero Jeremie Frimpong is ‘keen’ on Liverpool move

Jeremie Frimpong is a player who was loved by many Celtic supporters after his first and only season at Celtic helped to deliver an historic Quadruple Treble.

The young Dutchman’s infectious personality made him an instant fan favourite and after becoming a hero to many Celtic supporters, Frimpong left Celtic for Bayer Leverkusen in 2021.

After four big seasons at the club and a Bundesliga title under his belt, Romano says the former Celtic defender is now keen on a move to English Premier League champions, Liverpool.

Taking to X late last night, Romano said, “Liverpool are well informed on Jeremie Frimpong situation and how the installments are defined for his €35/40m release clause.

“He remains one of the main names on the shortlist to replace Trent with Frimpong expected to be eventually keen on the move.”

What Jeremie Frimpong’s potential move to Liverpool could mean for Celtic

Frimpong is undoubtedly one of the best right-backs in Europe. With 12 caps for the Netherlands the 24-year-old has a bright future ahead of him.

If Liverpool needs to pay the top end of his release clause at €40m [£33.38m] Celtic will be due a massive chunk of that fee.

It has been widely reported that Celtic have a 30% sell-on clause on Frimpong. The Daily Record has previously stated this.

If Liverpool pay Leverkusen the £33.38m, then Brendan Rodgers could see his transfer kitty swell to the tune of £10m+.

What a boost that would be to the Parkhead club in their pursuit of a new striker and, no doubt, Celtic and the fans will be watching Frimpong’s next move with interest.
