It’s all gone quiet on the Celtic transfer front over the last few days. Yes, as 67 Hail Hail highlighted last night, there has been sporadic rumours of interest in some players but nothing really concrete since the signing of Marco Tilio.
But that doesn’t mean our transfer interests end there. Celtic still holds a vested interest in one specific player that, should his transfer move happen this summer, could land the club millions of pounds in a sell-on fee.
Speculation has been rife all year that Jeremie Frimpong could be set to leave Bayer Leverkusen with interest in the player from all over the continent reported. 67 Hail Hail has told of interest from the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United in the past.

But what is interesting now is that whilst no specific club was mentioned, Fabrizio Romano has revealed the price that the Bundesliga club are looking to start bidding at. And, if this is accurate, Celtic could be in for a hefty payday this summer.
Speaking on the Born and Red podcast Romano said, “He has new agents now or it is better to say that his original agent partnered with a new agent. So this is what’s going on.
“From what I’m hearing this is an expensive player this summer because I’m told that Bayer Leverkusen would start negotiations only from £35 million.
“So he’s a very expensive right back. Probably this was a big opportunity in January because they were happy maybe with £20-£25m, now it’s around £35m
“So it’s way more expensive. I think that this is difficult but Frimpong is prepared to make his move.

“And I’m told that the priority of Frimpong is to go to the [English] Premier League. So let’s see if some club will put that money on the table. But at the moment, not.”
It has been reported that Celtic would be due 30% of any profit [Daily Record] made on Frimpong should Leverkusen sell him on and if that is the case, the club could stand to pocket a minimum of £7m if the minimum £35m price that is set is achieved.
Quite a stunning windfall that would hopefully be passed on to Brendan Rodgers to invest back into the first team as the new manager looks to strengthen for the new season ahead.
